Operation Modern Craftsman

Modern or Craftsman... Craftsman or Modern?

Call me crazy and a little indecisive but I love them both. Who doesn't love walking up to a warm and inviting Craftsman porch? They are the definition of practicality for a growing family. At the same time, there is something so edgy and funky about a modern house. It's like embracing your midlife crisis and buying a convertible that obviously doesn't fit car seats. You shouldn't but it feels so good. The modern clean and boxy lines will always be epically artsy.

So what is one to do when building a house and not wanting to cheat on either style...
Let's have ourselves a little family blending fun. Practical meets edgy in this project of Operation Modern Craftsman. Here goes nothing.

Here is just an overview of what gets my blood a bubbling. Some general ideas of what we are trying to accomplish.

Hipster Fox & Friends Party

I can't get enough black and white with little pops of color. It leaves everything so clean and modern. Think I can get away with decorating my entire house this way?

For the latest release in the shop, I've designed you a black and white Hipster Fox Party (including Mr. Fox's friends that make an appearance on the cupcake toppers- Ray and Hilda the glasses wearing cats, Gulliver and Holger the bears sporting scarves and bowties, Donavan the Deer with a killer mustache and the bearded Thelonious the Lion). This was way too much fun and I'm absolutely in love!

So It Begins...

One of my favorite smells is wood, more specifically sawdust.
I spent my childhood growing up around my dad's job sites with my older sister. We'd sweep up the sawdust and make obstacle courses from paint buckets while my dad cut two by fours. Because we were around all his construction sites year after year, there's nobody else to blame except my dad for my obsession with all things having to do with houses. I blame him for my love of paint colors and the endless hours of DVR'd HGTV (FYI Design Star is my soul mate).

After Chris and I got married, a whopping 9 years ago, we thought we'd build ourselves a little house and I immediately got a subscription to Elle Decor. We were on our way and I dreamt of house plans and possibilities. Little did I know, that reality was a long way away. Pharmacy school fell on my husband's plate and we figured we'd better survive that first, and luckily we (just barely) did. After pharmacy school we unexpectedly took a job in Vegas that delayed our dream of building a couple more years. Now we are back in Utah and living with Mr. Construction Dad himself so we can finally build the house we've always dreamed of. My goosebumps get the goosebumps just thinking about it and I can't wait to smell the sawdust.

Meet the future home of the Pharmacist husband, wannabe supermom-entrepreneur/wife, three (well technically 2 & 3/4 until July) rowdy boys and our pup, Murphy.
